Eye Surgery

By far the most common surgery that Koreans do is a double-eyelid surgery, the two other common surgeries are rhinoplasty and fat transfer. Many Koreans are born with “monolids”, we do not have an outer crease on eyelids. A typical high school graduation gift for a Korean teen-ager is a double-eyelid surgery.

Let's investigate how to create a deep and big double eyelid.

Many Koreans are born with “monolids”, we do not have an outer crease on eyelids. A typical high school graduation gift for a Korean teen-ager is a double-eyelid surgery.

Let's investigate how to create a deep and big double eyelid.

Double eyelid surgery methods consist of non-incision method, incision method and partial incision. The surgery method is selected by the type of your eyelid, thickness of eyelid skin, fat volume under the eye skin, strength of eye opening muscle.

Non-incision is known as the ‘pinch method’, it creates double eyelids using fine sutures without making incisions to the eyelid. Non-incision method is simple, more easily revised, causes less edema, and allows for a faster recovery. It is suitable for those in their young age who have thin eyelids and a low volume of fat in the area of eyelids.

  • Surgery Durations : 30 mins - 1 hour
  • Hospitalization : Not required
  • Clinic Visit : 1 times
  • Anesthesia : Sedation or Local (Deep sleep) Anesthesia
  • Stich Removal : Not required
  • Recovery Period : Return to normal life 3 - 4 days after

Incision method removes a certain amount of tissue, including skin, muscle, fat and connective tissues. In this way, the double eyelid line is accurate and clear. Because of swelling after the operation, it takes a longer time to make your double eyelid to appear naturally. Incision method is appropriate for fat and thick skin.

  • Stich Removal : 5 - 7 days after the operation
  • Recovery Period : 1 - 2 weeks

Partial incision has strengths of both non-incision method and incision method. The partial incision makes a miniscule incision on the eyelid to remove excess fatand muscle tissues. This method can be recommended for those whose double eyelid crease came undone after the non-incision method. The double eyelid fold can last longer than the ones made by non-incision method, no scar remains and swelling is relieved quickly.

Ptosis usually results from the levator muscle loosening or stretching. levator muscle is responsible for lifting the upper eyelid, when the levator muscle is weak, the upper eyelids are drooping. It makes people use forehead muscles to open up eyes. Accordingly they gradually develop forehead wrinkles. Ptosis correction can correct it by incising or suturing the levator muscle. It increases the exposure of pupil that cannot be expressed with. Surgical method is determined by each patient’s eye-opening strength.

Most Asian’s inner corner of eyes starts from the lower part, which could make the eyes look sharp and inwarded. Upper epicanthoplasty removes skin of mongolian folds to upward to reveal eyes that was covered with skin of inner corner and reveal double eyelids to change eyes distinct and bright.

Asians typically have an epicanthic fold (Mongolian Fold) which a small section of the eyelid that covers the inner corner of the eye. This fold makes eyes look round and distant. By reducing the force that pulls the inside skin of the epicanthic folds, the hidden area is exposed, the distance between two eyes look closer together with bigger eyes as well.

Many people desire to have larger and brighter eyes. Double eyelid produces changes in the vertical dimension of the eyes, whereas epicanthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty create changes in the horizontal dimension of the eyes. Since an incision is made to the inside of the lateral corner, no visible scar is remained.

Lower canthoplasty is to lengthen the vertical height of the eye and lowering the lower eyelid down. If the horizontal dimension of the palpebral fissure is short and the lateral canthus is located higher than the medial canthus, lower canthoplasty could be operated with lateral canthoplasty. The eye will look bigger with more exposure of pupil, so a gentle and kind look is created.
